The Who

My name is Gregg. I’m a Montreal, PQ native now living in beautiful Vancouver, BC. Here is my story.

I have always had a love affair with food. The textures, tastes, visuals, and especially the science. Everything gave me a sense of wonder. I would watch cooking shows and stare in awe as simple ingredients were turned into masterpieces. At restaurants, I would become internally giddy when a beautiful plate was put in front of me. I loved watching the cooks in the kitchen bent over their counters, grills, and saute pans dancing in unison to present tactile sensations for paying guests. I would watch home cooks lovingly prepare and present dishes with care and tenderness. I never cooked much, but when I did, I was in my element (even if it didn’t always turn out so good!)

Then I entered the world of a career cook. All my illusions were shattered! Well, mostly. I discovered how much salt, sugar and other additives are put into the food we eat (It’s an insane amount if you’re wondering!)

I come from a family that mostly cooked at home. We rarely went out to eat. It was my generation (born in the 70s) that changed all that. We all got fat, and depressed, and complacent, and sedentary. It was fairly rare to see someone who was overweight. In my late teens and early 20s, I got fat also (well, pleasantly plump anyway!) I went from a healthy 165 to 250lbs in just a couple of years!

Somehow, at 30 years old, I got married to a vegetarian athlete! She not-so-subtly influenced me to eat better and move more. Over a few years, I got down to about 210 and stayed there for 5 or 6 years. Soon after our son was born in 2008, we decided to go hang gliding in Wyoming. Unfortunately, the max weight was 200lbs. I really wanted to fly so I found a crash diet that got me to 199 in just a few days and fly I did! But that was unsustainable.

Since then, I have hovered between 195 and 220.

Until now.

In May of 2020, I was at an unhealthy 225lbs. By August 2020, I went down to 197lbs and I couldn’t be happier or feel healthier and prouder!

How did I do it? I went on the Ketogenic journey. Now, my energy has increased, my mass is going down and I just feel better overall. I don’t have energy crashes anymore, I can focus for much longer and my mental fog has pretty much disappeared. And the weight keeps dropping and the energy keeps going up!

Now, this isn’t for everyone. We are all different but it works for me.

I have built this site and my Instagram to give those who are struggling with their weight and/or are just looking for healthier ways to prepare meals for themselves and their families.

With that said, if anyone wants to contribute, please feel free.

Enjoy and as we say in french “Bon courage!”
